Gas Prices May Surge as SSGC Proposes Up to 286% Increase, SNGPL Seeks 21% Hike

Quetta: Gas consumers in Pakistan may face a sharp increase in tariffs as Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (Sui Southern Gas Company) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited) have proposed significant price hikes for the fiscal year 2026–27, citing rising costs and mounting financial losses.
According to details, SNGPL has requested an increase of around 21%, while SSGC has proposed a hike of 121%. The situation becomes more severe when accumulated past losses of over Rs545 billion are included in the tariff adjustment request.
If these previous losses are incorporated into consumer tariffs, the overall increase in SSGC prices could reach as high as 286%, according to regulatory estimates.
SSGC has proposed raising the current gas price of Rs1,777 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) to Rs6,855 per MMBtu. The company argues that the revision is necessary to meet its required annual revenue target of Rs1.28 trillion.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority) has scheduled a public hearing on April 22 to review the proposals before making a final decision on the potential tariff changes.
The proposed increases have raised concerns among consumers already facing high inflation and energy costs across the country.
