Trump Says Iran Conflict Nearing End as US Prepares for Possible Second Round of Talks

US President Donald Trump has said that the ongoing conflict with Iran is approaching its end, expressing optimism about a potential agreement.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump claimed that the current escalation is close to being resolved and reiterated that Iran must never be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons. He said that without his intervention, Iran would already possess nuclear capabilities, warning that such a development would have significantly altered global security dynamics.

Trump further stated that, in his view, Iran would require at least 20 years to rebuild following the current situation, while suggesting that Tehran may now be more inclined toward reaching a deal.

In a separate interview with ABC News, he said he is not currently considering an extension of the ongoing ceasefire, noting that the truce could end at any time. He added that while developments could move in either direction, a negotiated agreement remains the preferred outcome as it would allow Iran an opportunity to rebuild.

According to Reuters, Trump also told journalist Jonathan Karl that the ceasefire is fragile and could collapse at any moment.

Meanwhile, CNN reported that a possible second round of Iran–US negotiations may be led by US Vice President JD Vance, with special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner also expected to participate.
