Speculation Grows Over Trump’s Possible Visit to Islamabad for Second Round of Iran Talks

Islamabad: Reports circulating on social media about a possible visit by Donald Trump to Pakistan for the second round of US-Iran negotiations have sparked debate in diplomatic circles, though no official confirmation has been issued so far.
The speculation gained traction after Sajid Nazeer Tarar, a close associate of Trump, claimed that discussions are underway in Washington about the former US president potentially traveling to Islamabad to meet the Iranian delegation.
In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Tarar said reports suggest Trump could visit Pakistan to finalize an agreement with Iran during the next phase of talks. He described the potential meeting as a significant development in ongoing diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington.
However, neither the White House nor Pakistani authorities have confirmed such plans. Officials on both sides have remained cautious, emphasizing that no formal announcement has been made regarding a high-level visit.
Diplomatic experts say that if such a visit materializes, it would mark an extraordinary development amid rising regional tensions and could further elevate Pakistan’s role as a mediator.
In recent weeks, Pakistan has facilitated dialogue between the United States and Iran, with efforts aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement. Reports suggest both sides are considering fresh direct negotiations before the current ceasefire expires.

According to the Associated Press, Islamabad is once again being considered as a potential venue for the next round of talks, while Geneva has also emerged as an alternative location. The negotiations are tentatively expected to take place later this week, possibly on Thursday.
Sources indicate that discussions are ongoing regarding the timing, venue, and level of representation in the upcoming talks. A diplomat from a mediating country claimed that both Tehran and Washington have, in principle, shown willingness to resume negotiations.
Meanwhile, Trump recently told reporters that “the other side has reached out” and “they want to make a deal,” signaling possible progress in backchannel communications.
Pakistani officials have reiterated their offer to host the next round of talks in Islamabad, stating that the final decision will depend on mutual agreement between the parties.
Despite the uncertainty, analysts believe that continued diplomatic engagement reflects a shared desire to avoid further escalation and move toward a negotiated settlement.
