Trump Gives $100 Tip to Delivery Driver in White House McDonald’s Stunt Event

Washington: Former US President Donald Trump drew attention once again after staging a McDonald’s-themed White House event in which a food delivery driver was reportedly tipped $100 (around Rs28,000).
According to the Associated Press, burgers from McDonald’s were delivered to the Oval Office through a DoorDash driver from Arkansas named Sharon Simmons, who brought two bags of food to the White House as part of a media-arranged event.
Trump personally greeted the delivery driver at the door, smiling for cameras and asking reporters, “Does this look staged?”
While strict White House security protocols normally prevent such close access to the President, officials confirmed the event was pre-approved as a media showcase designed to highlight a tax policy initiative.
The event was aimed at promoting a policy that reduces federal taxes on income earned from tips, particularly targeting service workers. Under the new provisions, employees may claim tax relief on tip income up to $25,000, with limits applying to higher earners.
The delivery driver reportedly earns around $11,000 annually in tips and said the policy has already provided her with financial relief.
During the interaction, Trump also gave her a $100 tip and invited her to join a press briefing, where political discussion extended beyond taxation to other topics.

At one point, Trump asked whether she would vote for him in the future, to which she cautiously replied, “Maybe.”
The President also raised questions about transgender participation in women’s sports, while the driver responded that she was focused only on tax relief for tips.
Trump further invited the driver and her husband to a UFC event planned at the White House lawn, which he said would mark his 80th birthday celebrations.
The former president has previously used McDonald’s-themed appearances in political campaigning, including visiting fast-food outlets and serving fries during election events.
At the end of the event, Trump reportedly distributed burgers and fries among White House staff in the West Wing, though it was not confirmed whether he received any “tip” in return.
