Islamabad: Samina Mumtaz Zehri has lauded Pakistan’s conciliatory role in easing tensions and supporting ceasefire efforts among Iran, United States, and Israel, calling it a highly commendable and positive development.
In a statement, the chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights said that Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives and hosting of dialogue have created hope for peace not only in the region but across the world. She emphasized that Pakistan has consistently advocated for peace, stability, and dialogue, and its current efforts reflect the conduct of a responsible and mature state.
Zehri highlighted that bringing conflicting parties to the negotiating table was a significant achievement, stressing that dialogue—not the use of force—is the only sustainable solution to disputes. She expressed optimism that if ongoing negotiations succeed, a permanent ceasefire could be achieved, further enhancing Pakistan’s global standing as a peace-promoting nation.
She also praised the role of Asim Munir, noting that his leadership, strategic vision, and efforts were instrumental in facilitating ceasefire discussions and fostering regional stability.
The senator urged the international community, particularly the United Nations, to take effective steps in curbing escalating tensions and ensuring lasting peace. She stressed the importance of a proactive global response to prevent further conflicts and aggression.
Zehri further underscored the need for unity among Muslim countries, stating that collective efforts are essential to address regional challenges and protect nations such as Palestine from ongoing hostilities.
She concluded that the ceasefire could help prevent loss of lives, improve economic stability, and create opportunities for trade and public welfare, while strengthening global peace and security.
