Airfares Surge in Quetta After Fuel Price Hike, Passengers Face Mounting Costs

Quetta:** Following the recent increase in petroleum prices, air travel has become significantly more expensive in Quetta, as both national and private airlines have raised their fares, putting additional financial pressure on passengers.
According to reports, the national carrier Pakistan International Airlines and other private airlines have increased ticket prices across multiple routes. On April 2, 2026, a one-way ticket from Quetta to Islamabad was priced at Rs38,000, which surged to Rs45,000 on April 3—an increase of Rs7,000 within a single day.
Similarly, fares on the Quetta to Karachi route rose from Rs35,000 to Rs40,000, marking an increase of Rs5,000. Following these hikes, ticket prices for various destinations from Quetta now range between Rs40,000 and Rs45,000.
The sudden increase has left passengers обесп
Passengers, particularly those who rely on air travel out of necessity, have expressed serious concerns. Many say that rising inflation has already made life difficult, and the surge in airfare has pushed travel beyond the reach of the average citizen.
Airline officials attributed the increase to higher operational costs driven by rising fuel prices, especially aviation fuel. They stated that unless fuel prices decrease, a reduction in fares is unlikely.
Experts note that increases in petroleum prices directly impact not only ground transportation but also air travel, with immediate effects reflected in ticket pricing.
Citizens have urged the government to take measures to regulate airfares and provide some relief to airlines so that passengers can also benefit from more affordable travel options.
With the ongoing wave of inflation affecting nearly every sector, the rising cost of air travel has added yet another burden for residents of Quetta, where air connectivity is often a necessity rather than a luxury.
