Punjab Fixes Transport Fare Increase at 25% After Talks, Ends Unilateral 65% Hike

Lahore: The Punjab Transport Department has issued a new official fare notification, setting a 25% increase in transport fares after successful negotiations with transporters. The move comes after transporters had unilaterally raised fares by 60–65%, which has now been withdrawn following government intervention.

Authorities have directed all bus terminals in Lahore to immediately display and implement the revised fare list.

Under the new fare structure:

Lahore to Rawalpindi (Executive): Increased from PKR 2,480 to PKR 3,100
Lahore to Karachi: Increased from PKR 7,700 to PKR 9,650
Lahore to Quetta (Executive): Increased from PKR 4,480 to PKR 5,600

Fares for other major destinations—including Murree, Swat, Multan, and Faisalabad—have also been raised by 25% in line with the new policy.

The revision follows a sharp rise in petroleum prices, which had prompted transporters to impose steep fare hikes independently. However, after government intervention, the increase has been brought within regulated limits to provide some relief to passengers and prevent excessive financial burden on the public.
