PTI Rejects Fuel Price Hike, Demands Government Resignation and Announces Nationwide Protests

Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly rejected the recent massive increase in petroleum prices, calling it an “economic bomb” dropped on already burdened citizens. The party has also announced a nationwide protest campaign against the decision.

In an official statement issued by its central information department, PTI sharply criticized the government, terming it “incompetent and imposed,” and accused it of placing the burden of economic mismanagement on the public. The party alleged that while the ruling elite continues to spend on luxury, foreign visits, and protocol, the common people—including laborers, daily wage earners, and salaried individuals—are being crushed under rising inflation.

PTI further stated that policies influenced by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and a reported revenue shortfall of PKR 670 billion by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have led to increased taxation and fuel prices, worsening economic conditions. The party also highlighted that transport fares have surged by up to 60%, affecting all sectors of daily life.

Referring to past fuel prices, PTI noted that in May 2022, when former Prime Minister **Imran Khan was removed from office, petrol was priced at PKR 150 per liter and diesel at PKR 144. The party claimed that current prices—around PKR 458 for petrol and PKR 520 for diesel—reflect the government’s failure and “anti-people policies.”

The party demanded the immediate resignation of the government, stating that it has lost both moral and constitutional authority to rule, and called for the return of public mandate to Imran Khan to steer the country out of the economic crisis.
