Sindh Cabinet Approves Major Development Projects in High-Level Meeting

Karachi: A meeting of the Sindh provincial cabinet was held at the Chief Minister’s House under the chairmanship of Syed Murad Ali Shah, where several key development initiatives and financial recommendations were approved.
The session was attended by provincial ministers, advisors, special assistants, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, and other senior officials. The cabinet conducted a detailed review of the development agenda and recommendations put forward by the Cabinet Committee on Finance.
Among the major approvals, the cabinet sanctioned Rs2.55 billion for the rehabilitation and improvement of a 30.5-kilometer dual carriageway from Malir to Ghaghar Phatak. Additionally, Rs888.244 million was allocated for the restoration of flood-affected roads and bridges, while Rs1.966 billion was approved for the expansion and repair of various roads, including projects linking Talhar to Tando Bago and the Naushahro Feroze Road to the Mehran Highway.
The cabinet also approved Rs100 million for the construction of a modern multipurpose stadium at St. Patrick’s School Karachi. Furthermore, Rs6.63 billion was sanctioned for Phase-II of the Thar Institute of Engineering, Sciences and Technology.
In a move to support students, the cabinet granted in-principle approval of Rs3.4 billion for the reimbursement of previous years’ student fees to public institutions. The Chief Minister directed that the relief be provided only to deserving students through a transparent mechanism.
Under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), 98 schemes were approved with an allocation of Rs4.33 billion. A grant of Rs50 million was also approved for Aurat Foundation.
Development projects in Sukkur and Rohri, including RO plants, street lighting, and infrastructure upgrades in Union Council Jano Ji and Pir Akhlas Shah, were also approved, with an initial release of 25 percent of funds.
The cabinet further sanctioned three major studies related to the Indus River, drainage systems (SCARP, LBOD), and small dams. The Chief Minister emphasized transparency in flood relief funds and directed authorities to expedite completion of the National Highway Medical Complex.
Additionally, development schemes under the Auqaf Department were approved for shrines. In Khairpur’s Daraza Sharif, Rs51.5 million was allocated for establishing a library at the shrine of Sachal Sarmast. Meanwhile, Rs33.6 million was earmarked for internal road rehabilitation and installation of a 200 KVA transformer at the shrine of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai in Bhit Shah.
The cabinet approved the immediate release of 25 percent funds for these projects and directed authorities to improve facilities for visitors and devotees.
