White House Confirms Trump–Asim Munir Call on Iran Conflict, Sparks Mediation Buzz

Islamabad/Washington: The White House has officially confirmed a recent telephone conversation between Donald Trump and Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir on the sensitive issue of the Iran conflict, triggering fresh diplomatic momentum and speculation about Pakistan’s potential role as a global mediator.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt described the discussion as highly sensitive, while maintaining caution regarding reports about a possible visit to Islamabad by Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and senior advisor Jared Kushner.

According to Western media reports, senior US officials, including Vice President JD Vance, Jared Kushner, and Steve Witkoff, may travel to Islamabad next week to represent Washington in potential talks with Iran. However, the White House stated that it would refrain from commenting on sensitive diplomatic engagements through the media and would wait for formal announcements.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office has reiterated that Islamabad is ready to host and facilitate talks between Tehran and Washington if both sides agree. Officials emphasized Pakistan’s willingness to play a constructive role in de-escalating tensions and preventing a broader regional crisis.

The development highlights Pakistan’s emerging position as a potential bridge between global powers at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
