Punjab Launches Climate Leadership Development Internship Program with Rs60,000 Monthly Stipend

Lahore: The Government of Punjab has launched the Climate Leadership Development Internship Program, offering young participants a monthly stipend of Rs60,000 to encourage youth participation in environmental protection efforts.
The initiative was introduced by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who emphasized the importance of involving young people in tackling environmental challenges and improving climate conditions in the province.
Under the program, selected interns will receive a three-month internship along with an official certificate from the Government of Punjab after completion. The scheme also reserves 50 percent of the seats for female students to promote greater participation of women.
Officials said the internship program will provide opportunities for young participants to gain practical experience by working with the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency and the Environmental Policy Unit, allowing them to learn about environmental policies and protection initiatives.
Participants will also have access to a modern learning management system and may receive internationally recognized certification opportunities, including programs associated with UNESCO.
Applications for the internship are open online, and interested candidates can apply through the official portal epd.punjab.gov.pk/climateinternship until March 29.
Maryam Nawaz stated that the program aims to empower youth to actively contribute to environmental improvement, adding that pollution levels in Punjab—particularly in Lahore—have begun to decline due to continuous government efforts.
