Locally Manufactured Electric Vehicle Expected to Hit Pakistani Roads by June or July

Islamabad: Pakistan’s first fully locally manufactured electric vehicle (EV) is expected to appear on roads by June or July this year, according to Engineering Development Board CEO Hammad Ali Mansoor.

He made the announcement during an iftar dinner in Karachi, stating that this will mark the first time in Pakistan’s history that a completely locally produced EV will enter the market from a domestic production line.

According to Mansoor, the manufacturing plant for the vehicle has been established in Lahore. Efforts are being made to keep the price of the vehicle below Rs1 million, making it affordable for motorcycle users who may wish to shift to a four-wheeled vehicle.

The electric car is expected to travel approximately 180 kilometers on a single full charge, making it a practical and economical option for daily commuting.

The EDB chief also revealed that the federal government is considering reducing taxes on locally assembled vehicles in the 2026–27 federal budget to make cars more accessible to the public and support the growth of the domestic auto industry.

In addition, the government is reportedly working on an export incentive package worth Rs100 billion to promote the export of “Made in Pakistan” vehicles and strengthen the country’s automotive sector.
