Pakistan Backs Bahrain and Russia Resolutions at UN, Calls for Immediate De-escalation in Gulf

At the United Nations, Pakistan has supported resolutions presented by Bahrain and Russia while strongly condemning attacks on Iran by United States and Israel.
Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said the strikes on Iran have put global peace and regional stability at serious risk. He also confirmed that two Pakistani nationals were killed in Iranian attacks on the United Arab Emirates.
Ahmad expressed hope that attacks on the territory of Gulf countries would stop immediately and stressed that the rights and freedoms of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz must not be undermined.
He stated that countries in the region should not have to face the worst consequences of war, adding that Pakistan stands in full solidarity with their governments and people.
The Pakistani envoy also said Islamabad views positively the draft resolution submitted by the Russian Federation, which was prepared within the framework of the UN Charter. According to him, the core objective of the Russian proposal was to urge all parties to immediately halt military activities, avoid further escalation, and return to the negotiating table.
Meanwhile, the Security Council approved a resolution condemning Iran’s attacks on neighboring Gulf states and calling on Tehran to stop targeting them.
However, the Russian-sponsored ceasefire resolution failed to pass, receiving four votes in favor and two against, while nine members abstained or were absent during the vote.
