Government Announces Three-Day Weekly Holidays for Offices Amid Energy Crisis

Islamabad: In response to the ongoing energy crisis and with work-from-home arrangements in mind, the government has issued a new weekly schedule for federal offices.

According to the official notification, offices will remain open four days a week—Monday through Thursday—while Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be designated as holidays.

The notification also directs senior government officials earning salaries of PKR 300,000 or above (Grade 20 and above) to voluntarily take a two-day salary cut. However, this deduction will not apply to employees in the health and education sectors.

The Cabinet Division approved the notification, which has been circulated to federal ministers, advisers, special assistants to the Prime Minister, secretaries of all ministries and divisions, provincial chief secretaries, the Election Commission, higher judiciary, the State Bank, and other relevant institutions.
