‘There Was Everything but Disloyalty’: Social Media Reacts as Sialkot Stallions Renamed Multan Sultans in PSL

Lahore: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Sialkot Stallions has officially been renamed Multan Sultans following a request from the team’s new owner, Gohar Shah.

According to PSL management, the name change was made at the request of the new ownership. Gohar Shah, who had also participated in the bidding process for Multan Sultans, approached league authorities to rename the Sialkot-based franchise.

PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer stated that during the auction process, franchise owners were given the option to change their team names without requiring a fresh bidding round. He added that six potential names had been proposed for teams, but owners were allowed to select alternative names based on their preference. Under this provision, Sialkot Stallions has now been rebranded as Multan Sultans.

The decision has sparked a wave of reactions on social media. Many fans of Multan Sultans expressed excitement, saying they had been eagerly waiting for the team’s return. Meanwhile, Islamabad United welcomed the move on social media platform X, posting, “It’s good to see you back — welcome back, Saiyen.”

Some users, however, expressed sympathy for Sialkot supporters. One fan commented that Sialkot fans were extremely passionate and must be disappointed. Another user remarked that many people were genuinely excited about Sialkot Stallions, but ultimately the management decided to bring back what he described as a “boring team.”

Another social media user wrote that PSL felt incomplete without Multan Sultans, while others bid farewell to Sialkot Stallions in an emotional tone. One fan quoted a famous song lyric, saying, “There was everything in the one who left, except disloyalty,” capturing the bittersweet sentiment surrounding the franchise’s rebranding.
