Pakistan Eliminated from T20 World Cup Despite Thriller Win Over Sri Lanka

Pakistan’s campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup came to a disappointing end despite securing a thrilling five-run victory over Sri Lanka. The narrow win was not enough to keep Pakistan in contention, as earlier setbacks in the tournament ultimately cost them a place in the knockout stage.
In their final group match, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka national cricket team in a high-scoring encounter. Chasing a daunting target of 213, Sri Lanka fought bravely but fell short at 207 runs, handing Pakistan a dramatic win. However, the victory proved insufficient to secure qualification for the next round.
Much of the criticism has been directed at Pakistan’s so-called all-rounders, who struggled to deliver consistent performances throughout the tournament. Shadab Khan managed 118 runs and claimed five wickets during the World Cup but failed to make a decisive impact in crucial moments.
Captain Salman Ali Agha endured a particularly difficult campaign, scoring just 60 runs in seven matches and taking only one wicket. His form with both bat and ball drew scrutiny as Pakistan faltered in key fixtures.
Similarly, Mohammad Nawaz struggled to contribute significantly, scoring only 15 runs across seven matches while taking six wickets. Opening batter Saim Ayub also failed to make a strong impression at the top of the order, scoring just 70 runs despite picking up six wickets.
While Pakistan showcased fighting spirit in their final outing, inconsistent performances throughout the tournament ultimately proved costly. The team’s early defeats and underwhelming contributions from key players left them dependent on other results, and despite ending on a winning note, their T20 World Cup journey came to an abrupt close.
