Indian Man Challenges Wife’s Marriage in Pakistan’s Lahore High Court

Lahore: An Indian citizen, Karnail Singh, has challenged his wife’s marriage in Pakistan by filing a petition in the Lahore High Court.

According to the petition, Singh appointed former MPA Mahinder Pal Singh as his representative in Pakistan. He stated that his wife, Sarabjit Kaur — also known as Noor Fatima — arrived in Pakistan on November 3, 2025, on a 10-day pilgrimage visa.

The petitioner alleged that his wife was blackmailed with objectionable photographs and was forcibly converted to Islam before contracting a new marriage. He argued that under the Hindu Marriage Act, a marriage does not dissolve merely due to a change of religion. The petition further claimed that Sarabjit Kaur falsely declared herself “divorced” in the marriage certificate, despite there being no court-issued divorce decree.

Singh has requested the court to annul the marriage and order Sarabjit Kaur’s immediate deportation upon the expiry of her visa. He also urged the authorities to initiate legal action against the Pakistani man accused of coercing her into marriage.

The Registrar’s Office has raised objections to the petition, stating that the special power of attorney has not been attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and that the petitioner did not approach the relevant forum for annulment of the marriage before filing the plea in the high court.

Justice Farooq Haider is scheduled to hear the matter as an objection case.
