Why Your iPhone Is Charging Slowly – Apple’s “Clean Energy Charging” Feature Could Be the Reason

Los Angeles: iPhone users noticing slower-than-usual charging may not be experiencing a hardware issue. Apple introduced a feature called **Clean Energy Charging** in iOS 16.1 in October 2022, which can cause devices to charge more slowly.
The purpose of this feature is to reduce energy consumption during charging and minimize environmental impact. When enabled, the iPhone predicts the local electricity grid’s carbon emissions and charges primarily when electricity with lower carbon output is available.
This means that in some cases, the phone may take several hours to fully charge, especially at locations where the feature monitors grid emissions over time, like at home or other frequently used locations. The feature does not operate at new or temporary locations.
Users who prefer faster charging can easily disable it. Navigate to **Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging**, then turn off the **Clean Energy Charging** option.
This environmentally conscious feature aims to reduce carbon emissions while maintaining iPhone battery health, but it may be surprising to users unaware of its operation.
