Speculation Grows Over Possible Relief for Imran Khan Amid Supreme Court Developments

ISLAMABAD: Recent relief granted by the **Supreme Court of Pakistan** and former prime minister **Imran Khan**’s continued silence have fueled speculation in political circles about a possible deal or easing of his legal and political restrictions.

However, no confirmation of any such arrangement has emerged.

Regarding his health concerns, government officials and other stakeholders have indicated there is no objection to providing medical treatment facilities, as already assured to the court by the Attorney General. Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated for months in multiple cases at Adiala Jail, has reportedly been unable to issue any messages recently due to restrictions on meetings with family members, party leaders, and lawyers.

Within the **Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)**, uncertainty persists over how Khan might respond if granted renewed access to family or allowed to communicate more freely.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a party leader acknowledged that predicting Khan’s next move has never been easy. A senior PTI figure remarked, “He always does what he believes is principled, but if he is allowed to speak again, it is impossible to say what tone he will adopt.”

In the past, meetings with lawyers and family members were often used by Khan to convey political messages, later amplified through media interactions or posts on social media platform X. His statements, particularly those concerning senior military leadership, were frequently viewed as confrontational.

This approach is widely believed to have contributed to the restrictions imposed on his meetings at Adiala Jail, including limitations on access to family, party leadership, and even legal counsel. There is concern in some quarters that if such access is restored, Khan could resume sharp criticism through his sisters or party leaders.

At the same time, some PTI leaders privately express hope that the current phase may signal a more cautious strategy. Observers have also taken note of recent meetings between Khan’s wife, **Bushra Bibi**, and certain relatives. A person involved in facilitating those meetings told *The News* that they were allowed under strict conditions.

Sources familiar with the situation said relatives were instructed to avoid political discussion during meetings and refrain from speaking to the media afterward. Similar conditions are expected if Khan is permitted to meet family members or party leaders in the future.

A key question remains whether Khan would accept such restrictions. Any broader reconciliation or relaxation of constraints would likely require stakeholders to trust his commitments. However, observers point to a significant trust deficit and Khan’s unpredictable political style as major obstacles.

According to informed circles, a majority within PTI favors reducing political tensions to remain viable in the political arena. Yet Khan himself has often been viewed as resistant to compromise. Whether he is now willing to alter his approach remains uncertain, even within his own party.
