Shehryar Afridi Says ‘Humiliation of Parliament’ Is a Stain on Democracy

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) – Senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Shehryar Afridi, has strongly criticized the government, saying that the “example of humiliation of Parliament set today is a blot on the face of democracy.”

In a statement posted on X, Afridi alleged that an “incompetent and fearful government” had effectively held elected representatives hostage in order to conceal its failures. He claimed that by closing the doors of Parliament, the government demonstrated that it has little regard for the Constitution or democratic values.

He further stated that such behavior does not reflect a democratic administration but rather a weak system clinging to power. “Parliament is not anyone’s personal estate where dissenting voices can be silenced by locking the doors,” he said.

Afridi added that restricting the movement of Members of the National Assembly amounts to disrespecting the public mandate. According to him, the move is clear evidence that the rulers lack both performance and moral justification. “When those in power are unable to answer the public’s questions, they resort to force and coercion. Today, the entire nation witnessed this,” he concluded.
