Women Can Lead Beyond Homes, Even Give Men a Tough Time: Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said that women’s roles are not limited to household work, adding that a woman can become a Chief Minister and even challenge men in leadership roles.
Speaking at the Khailta Punjab Games event in Lahore, she stated that women are capable of managing the country, a province, parliament, ministries, counter-terrorism departments, and police sectors.
The CM highlighted efforts to make Punjab safer for women, noting a significant decrease in crimes against women. She encouraged girls to participate in all sports, including kabaddi, tennis, hockey, football, cricket, karate, and swimming.
Maryam Nawaz thanked the daughters of Punjab for their warm reception and praised the Sports Ministry for bringing children off mobile screens and onto playing fields. She noted that over 3,000 participants from every tehsil competed in Pink Games to reach this stage, emphasizing that women can excel both at home and outside.
Addressing the athletes, she said, “If you face challenges, do not be afraid. Your Chief Minister will support you. I want daughters to give boys a tough time in competitions.” She announced prizes totaling Rs20 million and revealed that 60 percent of top-performing scholarship recipients are girls.
She added that the youth possess immense talent and that construction of a Sports City will begin this year. Maryam Nawaz also highlighted progress in infrastructure, transport, and healthcare.
On a lighter note, she praised Lahore residents for following traffic rules during the three days of Basant, saying not a single motorcycle violated regulations during the festival.
