Experts Warn: Snoring May Signal Serious Health Risks, New Study Reveals

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily): While snoring can disturb those around you, experts warn that it may also pose serious health risks to the snorer.

Specialists say snoring is not always harmless and can indicate underlying medical conditions. Although light snoring is often associated with deep sleep, loud, persistent snoring accompanied by breathing pauses during sleep could be a sign of **sleep apnea**—a condition where breathing repeatedly stops, reducing oxygen levels and putting pressure on the heart.

**Health Risks of Snoring:**

* **Heart Problems:** Even in healthy individuals, snoring can increase the risk of heart disease by forcing the heart to work harder due to lower oxygen levels.
* **Potential Link to Cancer:** Continuous oxygen deprivation may damage cells, potentially raising the risk of serious illnesses.
* **Bone Weakness:** Sleep apnea-induced inflammation may weaken bones, increasing fracture risk, especially in women.
* **High Blood Pressure and Stroke:** Oxygen deprivation and stress can elevate blood pressure, increasing the likelihood of heart attacks, strokes, and related conditions.
* **Diabetes Risk:** Sleep disturbances trigger stress hormones that interfere with insulin function, making blood sugar management difficult.

Experts advise that frequent loud snoring, observed breathing pauses, or unusual daytime fatigue should not be ignored, and medical consultation is recommended.
