Ramadan: Nisab for Fitrana and Fidya Announced in Pakistan

Lahore: Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), Allama Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi, has announced the nisab for Sadaqat-ul-Fitr (Fitrana) and Fidya for fasting for the current year in Pakistan.

According to the announcement, the minimum amount of Fitrana and Fidya has been set at Rs300 per person. Dr. Naeemi explained that based on wheat flour, the amount is Rs300, while it is Rs1,100 based on barley.

Similarly, the prescribed amounts are Rs1,600 based on dates, Rs3,800 on raisins, Rs5,400 on dried grapes (munqa), and Rs200 based on government-subsidized wheat flour.

The CII chairman stated that Fitrana is obligatory on every Muslim—male or female, young or old, free or enslaved. He advised financially well-off individuals not to limit themselves to wheat-based calculations and to pay Fitrana according to their financial capacity so that a greater number of deserving people may benefit.

He further said that residents of provinces other than Punjab should calculate and pay Fitrana and Fidya according to the prevailing prices of food items in their respective areas.

Dr. Naeemi also shared the 30-day Fidya amounts, stating that it would be Rs9,000 based on wheat, Rs33,000 on barley, Rs48,000 on dates, Rs114,000 on raisins, Rs162,000 on munqa, and Rs6,000 based on government wheat flour.

Additionally, he clarified that the expiation (Kaffara) for deliberately breaking a fast is to either observe 60 consecutive fasts or feed 60 needy people two meals each.

According to the CII chairman, the nisab by weight is half a sa‘a (approximately 2 kilograms) for wheat, while one full sa‘a (approximately 4 kilograms) applies to barley, dates, and munqa.
