Water Line Burst at Dhabeji Halts Industrial Operations in Karachi’s SITE Area

KARACHI: A burst in Karachi Water Corporation’s main water supply line at Dhabeji, coupled with a strike by contractors supplying underground water to SITE and other industrial areas, has severely disrupted industrial operations in the city.

Ahmed Azeem, President of the SITE Association, stated that the daily water demand of industries in SITE is approximately 50 million gallons, while the Water Corporation is supplying only 1–2 million gallons. The remaining requirement is usually met by contractors providing underground water.

He explained that the burst in the underground pipeline at Dhabeji has affected water supply across Karachi, leaving industrial areas without adequate water. In protest, contractors supplying underground water have also gone on strike.

As a result, around 4,500 factories in SITE have been impacted, with 1,800 units completely halted due to the lack of water.

Ahmed Azeem urged the Sindh government, particularly the Mayor of Karachi, to take urgent measures, emphasizing that the functioning of factories in SITE is crucial for boosting the national economy.
