Fazal-ur-Rehman Warns of Security Threats from Afghanistan, Criticizes Government Policies

ISLAMABAD (Qudrat Roznama): Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-P) chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman has raised serious concerns over Pakistan’s foreign and Afghan policy, warning that “not even a pomegranate comes from Afghanistan, but terrorists are entering,” and questioned why they are not being stopped.

Speaking at the JUI Youth Convention in Rawalpindi, he reflected on the general elections held on February 8, two years ago, claiming that the results were rigged and the mandate of the people was manipulated. He said the current government operates on a “fake mandate,” and JUI-P could not be part of such a government, which is why the party remains in opposition.

Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman criticized the current government for failing in governance, democracy, and foreign policy. He argued that Pakistan faces economic stagnation, rising insecurity, and a declining rule of law. He pointed to the lack of effective legislation and implementation, and criticized constitutional amendments and political compromises that, in his view, undermine public trust.

He strongly condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, stating that over 70,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 150,000 displaced, accusing the United States of supporting Israeli aggression. He criticized Pakistan’s acceptance of Israel’s involvement in peace boards and expressed shame over such diplomacy.

Regarding Pakistan-China relations, he said that China was disappointed with Pakistan due to delays and cancellations in mega-projects during Imran Khan’s government, adding that expectations for progress under PDM were also unmet.

On security concerns at the Afghan border, he stated that Pakistan has failed for decades to maintain a coherent foreign and Afghan policy. He emphasized that if terrorists are entering from Afghanistan, they should be eliminated, warning that the inconsistent strategies of successive governments have endangered the country.

Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman also criticized economic mismanagement, highlighting the lack of progress on ending interest-based financial systems by January 2028, and stressed the need for serious governance and political accountability.

He concluded by asserting that JUI-P will not support unjust governance but will cooperate on genuine initiatives, emphasizing that the people’s mandate and public trust should be respected.
