Cancer Cases Double in Balochistan, Medical Facilities Still Inadequate for Patients

Quetta (Qudrat Daily) – The number of cancer patients in Balochistan has reportedly increased by 100 percent, while medical facilities for their treatment remain extremely limited. According to details, nearly 10,000 cases were registered in 2024 at the CINAR Cancer Hospital in Quetta, operated under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, compared to last year’s figures which have now risen to 22,000.

Most cases in the province involve breast, colon, and blood cancers. Alarmingly, 70 to 80 percent of patients visit hospitals only at the advanced stages of the disease.

The rising number of cancer patients is a matter of serious concern, as Balochistan has very few treatment facilities, with the CINAR Cancer Hospital being the only major center. A cancer hospital constructed within the premises of Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Quetta a few years ago has still not become operational, causing significant difficulties for patients traveling from remote areas.

Medical experts emphasize that cancer prevention requires lifestyle changes, a balanced diet, a clean environment, timely diagnosis, and regular medical check-ups.
