Punjab Nears Global Potato Export Status Following Record Harvest, Announces CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif

Lahore: Punjab is on the verge of becoming a potato-exporting province in the global market after recording a historic crop yield, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced.
She said potato production in the province has increased by 25 percent compared to last year, reaching a historic 12 million metric tons. The Chief Minister emphasized that the Punjab government has taken effective measures to protect farmers’ interests, ensuring that the bumper crop does not go to waste and that potato prices remain stable.
To facilitate exports and provide farmers with better returns, permission for potato exports has been sought from the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Maryam Nawaz Sharif stressed that the crop would not be sold at low prices through middlemen and that farmers would directly benefit from the produce.
Practical steps for agricultural cooperation between Punjab and Kazakhstan are already underway. The Chief Minister said an important meeting is expected today with a high-level Kazakh delegation in Pakistan to finalize access to new export markets.
She added that after Kazakhstan, the Punjab government would work on expanding access to additional international agricultural markets to ensure Pakistan’s produce is sold at competitive global prices. Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that the bumper potato crop would bring prosperity to farmers rather than stress, highlighting it as a message of economic growth for the agricultural community.
