Pakistan Urges UN Security Council to Impose Sanctions on Banned BLA

Islamabad: Pakistan has called on the United Nations Security Council to impose global sanctions on the proscribed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), urging decisive action against terrorist groups that are undermining regional peace with external support.
The demand was raised during a UN Security Council meeting held to discuss threats posed by terrorism to international peace and security. Pakistan specifically urged the Council to approve the pending request to include the banned BLA on the UN sanctions list.
Addressing the session, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said that following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, proxy terrorist groups backed by external sponsorship and foreign funding have been revitalized. He said these groups include Fitna-tul-Khawarij Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Fitna-e-Hindustan Baloch Liberation Army, along with its Majeed Brigade.
The Pakistani envoy stated that these terrorist groups are operating from Afghan territory with near complete impunity. He alleged that with the open support of Pakistan’s eastern neighbor, these groups have carried out brutal terrorist attacks inside Pakistan, posing serious threats not only to Pakistan but to peace and stability across the entire region.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad informed the Security Council that just last week, the banned BLA claimed responsibility for multiple terrorist attacks in different parts of Balochistan, resulting in the martyrdom of 48 innocent civilians. He described these attacks as among the worst examples of terrorism.
Pakistan stressed that the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, must take effective measures against terrorist organizations that continue to operate through external sponsorship and financial support. Islamabad emphasized that placing the BLA on the UN sanctions list is essential for strengthening global counterterrorism efforts and ensuring regional peace and security.
