PTI Founder May Lose His Eye, Allow Examination by Doctor of His Choice: Raja Nasir Abbas

Islamabad: Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, has warned that the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) could lose his eye if proper medical care is not provided, urging authorities to allow him to be examined by a doctor of his own choice.
Speaking during a Senate session, Raja Nasir Abbas said the PTI founder is a popular political leader whose stature is recognized worldwide, adding that even non-Pakistanis inquire about him. He stressed that the PTI founder has fundamental rights, both as a citizen and as a prisoner, which must be upheld.
He termed the PTI founder’s detention as “cruel and illegal,” questioning why he has been deprived of his basic rights. Raja Nasir Abbas also criticized authorities for failing to inform the PTI founder’s family about his illness, calling it a serious violation of his rights.
The opposition leader said restrictions on meetings with the PTI founder amount to political victimization. He rejected the argument that meetings are barred because the PTI founder issues political statements, asking whether a politician is not entitled to express political views. He also questioned why the PTI founder’s wife and family members are not being allowed to meet him.
Raja Nasir Abbas cautioned that the PTI founder’s eye condition could worsen and result in permanent damage if neglected. He urged authorities to immediately arrange a medical examination by a doctor chosen by the PTI founder and questioned the apparent negligence in addressing his health issues.
He further demanded that the PTI founder be granted access to doctors and allowed to meet his family. He added that senators are permitted to visit prisons and proposed a joint visit by senators to inspect the jail hospital and assess the medical facilities available.
The remarks have added to growing concerns raised by opposition lawmakers over the health and treatment of the PTI founder in custody.
