Lahore High Court Issues Notice to NAB on Return of Rs7 Crore Guarantee to Maryam Nawaz

Lahore: The Lahore High Court has issued a notice to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding the return of Rs7 crore deposited as a guarantee by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.
According to reports, Maryam Nawaz approached the court seeking the refund of the amount, arguing that NAB had already closed the case as baseless. She requested that the Rs7 crore, kept as a guarantee during the proceedings, be returned now that the case has been concluded.
A three-member full bench, led by Chief Justice Alia Neelum and comprising Justices Jawad Zafar and Abhar Gul Khan, heard the matter. During the proceedings, NAB’s counsel informed the court that the case had been closed. Chief Justice Neelum inquired whether the relevant trial court had also formally closed the case. NAB’s counsel replied that under the law, this was not necessary. The Chief Justice remarked that although NAB has closed the case, final approval from the trial court is still required.
The court directed NAB to submit its reply by February 4.
