Gul Plaza Tragedy: Rescue and Search Operation Enters Ninth Day, More Human Remains Recovered

Karachi:The rescue and search operation at the site of the Gul Plaza tragedy has entered its ninth day, as rescue teams recovered more human remains from the third floor while clearing debris. Rescue officials said that search activities are still ongoing in different parts of the collapsed building.

According to media reports, the recovered human remains have been shifted to the Civil Hospital for DNA testing to establish their identity, where legal formalities are being completed.

Police Surgeon Dr. Sumaiya Tariq stated that a total of 71 bodies and human body parts have so far been brought to the hospital. She said the identification of 22 deceased individuals has been completed. Of these, six bodies were identified through physical features, while 15 were identified through DNA reports.

Dr. Sumaiya Tariq added that one victim was identified with the help of a national identity card, while samples from relatives are being collected to identify the remaining bodies.

Meanwhile, police officials confirmed that a case related to the Gul Plaza incident has been registered on behalf of the state. According to media reports, the case has been lodged at Nabi Bakhsh Police Station against unknown persons and includes charges of negligence and carelessness.

Police further stated that a detailed investigation into the incident is underway and that strict legal action will be taken once those responsible are identified.
