Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Orders Beautification, Green Spaces, and Play Areas Under Overhead Bridges

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed a comprehensive urban development and beautification plan for the province’s cities, focusing on main entry and exit routes. She emphasized that cleanliness, green belts, and play areas should be developed under overhead bridges, along with the decoration of bridges and underpasses.
Chairing a special meeting, CM Maryam Nawaz instructed geo-tagging of all Punjab Development Plan (PDP) projects and requested a plan for passenger restrooms on provincial highways. She also ordered that roads be fully restored after excavation for sewerage and drainage projects.
To enhance monitoring, the Chief Minister directed the establishment of control rooms and management cells in all Deputy Commissioner offices. Briefing officials noted that PKR 280 million was saved in PDP Phase One due to transparency measures, and the first phase of the Lahore Development Plan has been successfully completed, with Phase Two currently underway.
Under the Punjab Development Project, 23.4 billion PKR is being spent on developmental projects across seven cities, including sewerage, drainage, and water storage tanks in Sargodha, Dera Ghazi Khan, Gujrat, and Jhang. Trunk sewerage, new disposal systems, and rainwater drainage projects are underway in Jhelum, Hafizabad, and Okara. 526 machinery units have been allocated for sewerage and drainage systems. Phase Two will complete projects in eight more cities, including sewerage, drainage, and water tanks.
CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized that trenches in neighborhoods should be covered with barriers, manhole levels must not exceed one millimeter above the road, and development standards must be uniform across Punjab. Sidewalks and roads should use consistent tiles, and every city should have green belts and green spaces for public benefit.
She also instructed that a single utility corridor be created in neighborhoods to avoid repeated excavation, with electric poles placed at road edges and wires properly organized. Streetlights will be installed in tehsil towns, new plastic-style manhole covers are being introduced, and sidewalks will use black and yellow stones instead of paint.
CM Maryam Nawaz stated that billions of rupees are being invested for the public’s convenience and city beautification, ensuring modern, functional, and aesthetic urban spaces across Punjab.
