Punjab reels under severe flooding; thousands displaced

Lahore:Punjab remains in the grip of devastating floods as several districts, including **Shujaabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Ahmedpur Sharqia, Rajanpur, and Vehari**, have been submerged. According to the Federal Flood Commission, the **Chenab River at Panjnad Barrage** is at a *very high flood level*, while forecasts warn of similar conditions at **Guddu Barrage** in the next 24 to 48 hours.

In **Multan**, dozens of villages in **Head Muhammad Wala** and **Sher Shah** remain underwater. In **Shujaabad and Jalalpur Pirwala**, hundreds of thousands have been displaced, while in **Chachran**, hundreds of houses have collapsed into the river, destroying thousands of acres of crops and washing away road links.

At **Nabi Shah in Sadiqabad**, the Zamindara embankment has broken, sending floodwaters into nearby settlements. In **Basti Dhondo (Shujaabad)**, the breach in the protective bund has widened to **240 feet**, worsening the crisis.

Floodwaters have also inundated **Uch Sharif’s riverine areas**, where rescue operations continued late into the night. In **Rajanpur**, thousands from katcha (riverine) belts have been forced to abandon their homes. Areas including **Rojhan, Bangla Acha, Sonmiani, and Kot Mithan** are severely affected.

Authorities report that more than **110,000 people** and **over 100,000 livestock** have been relocated, with **flood relief camps** established across affected zones. Drone-assisted rescue missions are underway to evacuate stranded families.

In **Vehari**, over **100 villages** and **76,000 acres of crops** are under water. Meanwhile, in **Rahim Yar Khan**, the Indus River has reached *extremely high flood levels*, submerging villages and leaving residents trapped inside their homes.
