MQM-P Chairman Writes to PM Shehbaz Sharif Seeking Independent Probe into Gul Plaza Tragedy

Chairman Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif demanding the formation of a high-level, independent and transparent inquiry commission into the Gul Plaza tragedy.
In the letter, the MQM-P chief called for the establishment of an inquiry commission under the title “Gul Plaza Tragedy Inquiry Commission,” comprising institutions including the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), National Accountability Bureau (NAB), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and other relevant bodies.
Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui urged the federal government and law enforcement agencies to immediately take control of rescue and relief operations to ensure the recovery and protection of human remains and valuable belongings from the site.
He also demanded the creation of a federally administered “Relief and Rehabilitation Fund” to provide financial assistance to the victims and bereaved families affected by the incident.
According to the letter, despite the passage of seven days since the tragedy, several individuals remain missing and families have yet to recover the bodies of their loved ones. The MQM-P chairman stated that more than 12,000 families have been directly affected by the incident.
Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui held the Sindh government, provincial departments and municipal institutions directly responsible for the loss of lives and property. He alleged that the Sindh government, Mayor Karachi, Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and other concerned institutions were guilty of criminal negligence.
