PTI Rejects Elections Amendment Bill 2026, Calls It an Attack on Transparency and Accountability

**Islamabad (Daily Qudrat Quetta):** Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly **rejected the Elections Amendment Bill 2026**, passed by the National Assembly, describing it as a **blatant attack on transparency, accountability, and the public’s right to information**.

According to PTI, the bill allows **members of parliament to withhold their asset details under vague “security concerns”**, effectively providing a **legal shield for the ruling elite** to hide their wealth. The party criticized the law as **weakening democracy** and **eroding public trust** in elected officials.

PTI further stated that political parties claiming to uphold **democracy, transparency, and parliamentary values** are now enacting legislation to **protect their ill-gotten wealth**. The party asserted that the public is aware of the sources of such wealth, which often stem from **corruption, looting, and misuse of authority**, and cannot be hidden through legislation.

The party emphasized that **true security concerns should be addressed by the state to protect lives and property**, not by hiding assets from public scrutiny. PTI called the bill **contrary to global principles of transparent governance** and warned that it would push Pakistan further into **a culture of impunity and unaccountability**.

Reiterating its long-standing stance on transparency, PTI demanded the **immediate withdrawal of the controversial amendment**, affirming that the **nation has the right to know the sources of its representatives’ wealth**, as transparency is **the cornerstone of democracy**, not an optional privilege.
