Controversial Tweets Case: Court Cancels Bail of Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha, Orders Arrest

Islamabad: In a major development in the controversial tweets case, a local court has cancelled the bail of Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chatha, and issued orders for their arrest and production before the court. The court also terminated their right to cross-examine witnesses.
According to media reports, the hearing of the case against Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha was held at the Islamabad District and Sessions Court. Hadi Ali Chatha appeared before the court and stated that Imaan Mazari wished to personally cross-examine witness Shehroz.
During the proceedings, Judge Afzal Majoka made it clear that if the cross-examination of the witness was not completed, the right of cross-examination would be withdrawn. At this stage, Islamabad District Bar Association President Naim Gujar appeared before the court and requested an adjournment until Monday, assuring the court that no further delay would be sought. He also cited Imaan Mazari’s illness.

The prosecution strongly opposed the request for adjournment. Prosecutor Rana Usman argued that the court should immediately administer an oath to the witness and begin the cross-examination. During the hearing, a heated exchange took place between the Bar Association president and the prosecutor, prompting Judge Afzal Majoka to rise and move to his chamber.
After the recess, Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha failed to appear before the court. Consequently, the court cancelled their bail, ordered their arrest, and directed that they be produced before the court. The court also withdrew the accused’s right to cross-examine the witness and adjourned further hearing of the case until tomorrow.
