CM Balochistan Expresses Anger Over Gas Shortage, Orders Immediate Action

Quetta:Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has expressed strong anger over low gas pressure and non-availability of gas in Quetta, Ziarat, Sui, and Qalat during the ongoing severe cold spell, stating that subjecting the public to such hardships in freezing weather is unacceptable under any circumstances.
A high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister was held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, attended by senior officials of Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), along with members of the Balochistan Assembly. The meeting reviewed in detail complaints related to low gas pressure, prolonged outages, and non-supply in various areas of the province.
The Chief Minister also expressed serious concern over gas-related accidents and directed the authorities to make safety measures more effective, strict, and result-oriented to ensure the protection of precious human lives. He categorically stated that gas shortages and low pressure for consumers are unacceptable and must be resolved through immediate, permanent, and practical solutions.
Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said that the limited gas allocation for Balochistan by the federal Ministry of Energy amounts to injustice towards the people of the province, causing severe suffering. He announced that the Prime Minister of Pakistan would be formally informed of the grave situation through an official letter.
Terming the situation regrettable, the Chief Minister said that Sui, which supplies gas to the entire country, itself continues to face severe gas shortages, forcing women to cook on firewood. He added that people in Quetta and other cold regions are shivering in extreme weather without gas supply, a situation that cannot be tolerated.
The Chief Minister issued clear directives to PPL and SSGC officials to resolve the gas crisis in Balochistan at all costs. He warned that the government is fully aware of public issues and will not tolerate any excuses, negligence, or delays from gas companies, directing concerned authorities to take immediate and effective measures to provide relief to the public.
