Newlywed Couple Killed in Karachi in Suspected Honor Killing Over Love Marriage

Karachi: A newly married couple was shot dead after unknown armed assailants broke into their house in the Lasi Goth area of Sohrab Goth, Karachi, in what police believe to be a suspected honor killing linked to a love marriage.

According to police reports, the attackers entered the house and opened fire, killing the woman on the spot and critically injuring the man before fleeing the scene. Both victims were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the injured man later succumbed to his wounds during treatment.

The deceased woman was identified as 28-year-old Latifa Khatoon, while the man was identified as 30-year-old Nasrullah, son of Muhammad Bachal. Police said the woman belonged to the Magasi community, while the man was from the Langah community. The couple originally hailed from Larkana and had contracted a court marriage of their own choice around five months ago.

Upon receiving information, police reached the site and summoned the crime scene unit to collect forensic evidence. Initial investigations suggest that four to five suspects were involved in the attack. Police recovered spent bullet casings, a live round, and three knives from the scene, one of which was stained with blood.

SDPO Sohrab Goth, DSP Aurangzeb Khattak, said that based on preliminary findings, the couple appears to have been killed in the name of “honor” for marrying by choice. However, he added that it would be premature to conclude whether the victims were also attacked with knives in addition to being shot.

Police said no relatives of the deceased woman had yet come forward, while the brother of the male victim briefly visited the hospital. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
