Government Finalizes Strategy for Opposition Talks; Prime Minister Gives Green Signal

*Islamabad:* The federal government has finalized its strategy for negotiations with the opposition, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given the green signal to initiate the process. However, internal divisions within the opposition have so far stalled the dialogue.

According to media reports, the government’s strategy aims to reduce political tension and promote stability in the country. Under this plan, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has been authorized to commence the negotiations.

Government sources said that talks will be held exclusively with elected parliamentary representatives of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and no discussions will take place with any other individuals or groups. A government delegation is ready to participate immediately at the Speaker’s request.

The Speaker has invited PTI leaders to his chamber to start the dialogue. If the opposition agrees, he is also prepared to convene a parliamentary committee meeting to facilitate the process.

So far, no opposition leader has formally contacted the Speaker, preventing the negotiations from progressing. PTI has conditioned its participation on the appointment of Mahmood Khan Achakzai as Leader of the Opposition. Until this appointment is made, PTI has stated that no dialogue can take place.

The last meeting between PTI leaders and the Speaker focused solely on this demand, with no other political agenda or reconciliation discussed. Government sources emphasized that parliamentary-led dialogue remains the only viable path to political stability, and the door for negotiations remains open. The next step now depends on the opposition’s willingness to respond positively to the Speaker’s invitation.
