Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodríguez Sworn In as Interim President

Islamabad:Venezuela’s Vice President and Oil Minister Delcy Rodríguez was formally sworn in as the country’s interim president on Monday, following the removal of President Nicolás Maduro by the United States. The development comes as Maduro faces drug-related charges in a New York court after being deposed in what Washington described as an extraordinary and dramatic military operation over the weekend.

According to news agency Reuters, the 56-year-old Rodríguez, a labor lawyer by profession, is known for her close ties to the private sector and strong loyalty to the ruling party. She took the oath of office from her brother, Jorge Rodríguez, who currently serves as the head of Venezuela’s National Assembly.

On the same day, 283 members of parliament elected in May were also sworn in. Only a small number of lawmakers belong to opposition parties, as most opposition groups—particularly factions aligned with Nobel laureate María Corina Machado—boycotted the elections.

The only prominent absence from the swearing-in ceremony was First Lady Cilia Flores, who is currently in US custody.
