US Denies War Against Venezuela at UN Security Council Emergency Meeting

Islamabad:The United States has stated at the United Nations Security Council that it is not at war with Venezuela or its people. The remarks were made during an emergency Security Council session convened to discuss the situation in Venezuela, including the recent US military action and its aftermath.

Addressing the meeting, the US envoy said that Washington is not seeking to occupy Venezuela and emphasized that the United States wants peace, freedom, and justice for the Venezuelan people. The envoy added that former President Donald Trump had given diplomacy a chance, offered alternative paths to President Nicolás Maduro, and attempted to reduce tensions.

The US representative further stated that the government would not compromise on measures aimed at protecting Americans from what he described as “narco-terrorism.”

During the session, a statement by UN Secretary-General António Guterres was read out, in which he strongly criticized the US action against Venezuela. Guterres said the American military operation violated international law and confirmed that Venezuela’s president and his wife are currently in US custody.

The UN chief warned that the situation could lead to further instability in Venezuela and have serious repercussions for the wider region. He urged all parties to respect the UN Charter and called for an inclusive and democratic dialogue, allowing all segments of Venezuelan society to decide their future peacefully.
