Gen Z Not a Monolith, Nor the State, Says PPP MNA Jamal Raisani

Quetta (UNA): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Member of the National Assembly Jamal Raisani has said that the younger generation, commonly referred to as Gen Z, is neither a homogeneous group nor a replacement for the state, stressing that reducing Pakistan’s complex challenges to a simple “boomer system versus Gen Z” narrative is analytically flawed and contrary to facts.

In a post on the social media platform X, Jamal Raisani stated that questioning authority is a natural and healthy trait of every generation, but framing national issues solely through generational conflict oversimplifies reality. He emphasized that Pakistan’s problems require deeper and more nuanced analysis.

Highlighting his own background, Raisani said he belongs to Gen Z himself and is Pakistan’s youngest serving Member of the National Assembly. He noted that he chose to work within the system, believing that meaningful demands can only be fulfilled when individuals are part of the decision-making process.

He further pointed out that this approach led him to spearhead Balochistan’s first-ever Youth Policy, which was developed through direct input from young people. According to him, the policy aimed to transform the sentiments and aspirations of youth into institutional reforms.

Jamal Raisani added that the role of youth is not to challenge the sovereignty of the state but to strengthen it. He said states and institutions become stronger when citizens actively participate, engage constructively, and work toward reform from within.

He concluded by stressing that the energy of young people should be channeled into practical participation and constructive engagement, rather than being reduced to expressions of anger or driven by political revenge.
