PTI Senior Leader Hamid Khan Condemns 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments

Lahore: Founding member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Hamid Khan, has strongly criticized the 26th and 27th amendments to the Constitution, saying the former “killed” the Constitution while the latter “buried” it.
Speaking at a press conference held by the Professional Group at Lahore High Court, Hamid Khan alleged that an illegitimate government was imposed on the country, and assemblies made constitutional amendments beyond their authority. He further claimed that both provincial and federal governments were formed through rigged elections.
Hamid Khan also expressed concern over the suppression of political dissent, saying, “Those trying to raise their voices politically are being silenced. We have never seen such oppression and injustice in this country.” He added that he hopes the new year brings better prospects, as 2025 and previous years had been “horrific” for Pakistan.
The senior PTI leader highlighted the role of lawyers in resisting actions against the judiciary, stating that the Professional Group has carried the burden of opposition alone. He criticized other groups for allegedly supporting the amendments and said future elected presidents must address this issue.
He emphasized the erosion of constitutional and legal norms, asserting that whenever any tampering occurred with constitutional setups, lawyers stepped forward, and he hoped they would not become “Team B of the establishment.”
Regarding Islamabad High Court, Hamid Khan said that while the presidency of the court was their choice, they did not anticipate the extent to which the establishment would manipulate resources to influence appointments.
