PTA Issues Warning on SIM Cards Registered in Someone Else’s Name

Islamabad – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important advisory instructing all mobile users to ensure that their SIM cards are registered in their own names. Using a SIM registered in someone else’s name is considered a violation of the law, and the person under whose name the SIM is registered will bear full responsibility for its misuse.

According to media reports, PTA emphasized that all users are accountable for the proper use of their mobile connections, including calls, messages, and internet data. Non-compliance may lead to legal action.

PTA Director Kashif Ghafoor clarified that this is not a new measure but a routine reminder to users. He noted that telecom service agreements clearly state that a SIM card must be issued in the name of the person who will use it.

Under the law, a person can register a maximum of eight SIM cards in their name. Users are therefore urged to ensure that they only use SIM cards registered under their own identity.

While no final decision has yet been made on deactivating SIMs registered under someone else’s name, PTA has provided a facility for users to verify their SIM registrations. By sending their CNIC number to 668, users can receive a message detailing how many SIMs are registered under their name.

PTA has appealed to all users to check their SIM registrations promptly to avoid any legal complications.
