Constitutional Bench Rejects Plea to Halt Deportation of 28 Turkish Nationals

Karachi: The Constitutional Bench of the Sindh High Court has dismissed an urgent plea seeking a stay on the deportation of 28 Turkish nationals residing in Pakistan.

The bench, comprising Justice Yousuf Ali Sayeed and Justice Abdul Mubeen Lakho, heard the petition filed on behalf of the Turkish citizens, who were reportedly living in an Afghan refugee camp in Pakistan. The petitioner’s lawyer stated that the applicants had arrived in Pakistan 45 years ago for religious preaching purposes.

Justice Abdul Mubeen Lakho inquired whether the petitioners possessed documents confirming their Turkish nationality. The lawyer responded that no such documents were available but requested a four-month grace period to arrange for them.

Justice Yousuf Ali Sayeed remarked that the court could not intervene in such matters, suggesting that the petitioners approach the Turkish consulate or embassy for assistance. He questioned why Turkish nationals were residing in Afghan refugee camps and emphasized that the court could not prevent the government from carrying out deportation procedures.

The bench rejected the request for an immediate stay on the deportation and stated that a detailed order would be issued later.
