Competition Commission Fines Pakistan Poultry Association for Price Fixing Cartel

Islamabad:The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has imposed a multi-million-rupee fine on the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) for forming a cartel to artificially increase poultry prices.

According to the CCP, the Competition Appellate Tribunal upheld the Commission’s earlier decision after the charge of cartelization against the Poultry Association was proven. In an official statement, the CCP said the tribunal confirmed that the association had violated competition laws by colluding to raise prices.

The statement added that the Pakistan Poultry Association has been ordered to pay a fine of **Rs 25 million**. The tribunal reduced the original penalty from **Rs 50 million to Rs 25 million** following an appeal filed by the association.

The Poultry Association has been directed to deposit the fine within **15 days**.

It is worth recalling that the Competition Commission had earlier imposed the penalty on the Pakistan Poultry Association for engaging in price collusion, which adversely affected fair competition and consumers across the country.
