FIA Foils Attempt to Smuggle Fake Pakistani Currency, Bus Driver Arrested

Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Commercial Banking Circle in Islamabad has foiled an attempt to smuggle counterfeit Pakistani currency and arrested a bus driver involved in the operation. The agency recovered fake currency worth Rs4.5 million.

According to officials, an FIA team conducted a raid near the M-1 Attock Toll Plaza on a tip-off and arrested the suspect, identified as Raveez Khan, a bus driver from Nowshera. The team recovered 800 counterfeit notes of Rs5,000 denomination from his possession, amounting to a total of Rs4 million. The fake notes had been expertly concealed inside his clothing. The bus was traveling from Peshawar to Multan at the time of the operation.

Initial investigation revealed that the suspect had been involved in smuggling counterfeit currency for several months. He reportedly received the fake notes from a rickshaw driver in Peshawar and delivered them to another gang member in Multan. For every Rs100,000 worth of fake currency he transported, the suspect was paid a commission of Rs2,000.

Officials further stated that the suspect had previously delivered counterfeit currency to Multan as well. FIA has expanded the scope of the investigation and launched raids to arrest other members of the network involved in producing and distributing fake currency.
