Hengor Day Commemorated: Navy Honors Legendary Submarine’s Bravery on December 9, 1971

Islamabad: December 9, celebrated as **Hengor Day**, marks the heroic legacy of the **submarine PNS Hengor** and stands as a symbol of Pakistan’s indomitable defense.

On this day in 1971, **Hengor sank the enemy vessel Kakri and severely damaged Kirpan**, striking a significant blow to the Indian Navy’s maritime pride. Reflecting on the historic feat, **Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir**, said that the crew of Hengor wrote a brilliant chapter of courage and valor that remains etched in the minds of adversaries. He added that the Pakistan Navy in 1971 acted as an unyielding wall in the sea and continues today as a formidable guardian of the nation’s maritime borders.

**Admiral Naveed Ashraf**, Chief of Naval Staff, highlighted that **eight modern Hengor-class submarines will soon be inducted into the Pakistan Navy**, continuing the distinguished legacy of the legendary vessel. He affirmed that the Navy remains ever-ready to defend the nation and challenge adversaries on every front.

On the occasion, the Pakistan Navy also released a special documentary titled **“Hadaf”**, based on the war diary of Hengor’s commanding officer, **Vice Admiral (Retired) Ahmed Tasneem**, celebrating the submarine’s valor and strategic achievements.
