Heavy Clashes Erupt at Pak-Afghan Border After Failed Talks, Bab-e-Dosti Damaged

QUETTA: Following failed negotiations, intense firing broke out once again between **Afghan Taliban forces** and **Pakistani security forces** along the **Chaman and Spin Boldak border**, leading to renewed tensions between the two sides. Both countries have blamed each other for initiating the clashes.

In a statement, Taliban government spokesperson **Zabiullah Mujahid** claimed that Pakistani forces opened fire in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar, prompting the **Islamic Emirate forces** to respond. Pakistan, however, rejected this allegation, asserting that Taliban forces fired without provocation.

**Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s spokesperson, Mashraf Zaidi**, tweeted that the Afghan Taliban launched unprovoked firing at the Chaman border, to which the **Pakistani Army responded immediately and effectively**. Zaidi added that Pakistan remains fully prepared and vigilant to protect its borders and citizens.

Videos from the clash show local residents fleeing the area amid heavy gunfire, while images also emerged showing significant damage to the **Chaman border crossing, Bab-e-Dosti**.

The clashes occurred just days after a **secret meeting in Saudi Arabia** between representatives of Pakistan and the Taliban government, during which both sides agreed to maintain a ceasefire. No major breakthroughs were reported from that meeting.

No casualties have been reported from Friday night’s latest confrontation. Previous negotiations in **Istanbul** also ended without results, with both sides blaming each other for the failures.

Earlier border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan in **October** resulted in dozens of fatalities and were considered the **most severe cross-border tensions** since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in 2021. For over fifty days now, movement of people and trade between the two countries has been largely suspended, causing significant financial losses. Pakistan has only allowed Afghan citizens to return, while other border activities remain halted.
