State Minister Aqeela Malik Says PTI Seeking Political Meetings With Imran Khan in Jail

State Minister for Law Barrister Aqeel Malik has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is seeking politically motivated meetings with its founder, Imran Khan, adding that Khan’s family also discusses political matters during their visits.

Speaking to the media, Barrister Aqeel Malik stated that meetings cannot be arranged based on personal wishes, as the authority lies with the jail superintendent and all meetings are conducted strictly under the prison manual.

He said that all visitation matters are governed by prison rules. “PTI wants political meetings. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was not allowed to meet anyone for nine months. Nawaz Sharif was not permitted to meet anyone for three weeks, and no political discussion took place during his prison meetings,” he added.

Commenting on security concerns, he said that the Adiala Jail superintendent has confirmed that the PTI founder is completely fine. “There are many prisoners in Adiala Jail, not just prisoner number 804. The administration must ensure security for all. Considering the current security situation, a meeting may be allowed next Tuesday, possibly with one sister or a lawyer.”

The state minister further stated that the PTI founder’s family always discusses political matters with him. “Protests should be held within the constitutional and legal framework; no one has been barred. The government will take all necessary measures for the safety of its citizens.”

He added that Imran Khan has been meeting his sisters and lawyers regularly, and he has remained in contact with his sons as well. “His sons are not willing to come to Pakistan,” he claimed.

Aqeel Malik clarified that Imran Khan had access to WhatsApp call facilities, although no prisoner in Adiala Jail is generally allowed to make WhatsApp calls. “If the court orders, a call with his sons can be arranged. The jail superintendent cannot make such decisions independently; his authority has limits,” he said.
